Syntax highlighting and code blocks for Google Docs™ and Google Slides™ — free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Google Docs™ has a basic code block, and Google Slides™ has none. Codeglaze colors your code the way an editor does: pick a language and a theme, check the preview, and put the code into your document or slide.
Your code is highlighted inside the side panel in your own browser. It is never sent to us or to any other service. The panel only sends anonymous usage counts (which features are used and how often) to Google Analytics™ – never your code, your file’s name or content, or your email address.

What it does
- Works in Google Docs™ and Google Slides™
- 190+ languages, plus auto-detect
- 10 themes: VS Code Dark and Light, GitHub Light and Dark, Monokai, Dracula, One Dark, Solarized Light and Dark, Nord
- Live preview before anything is written to your file
- Code box with a background (a one-cell table in Docs, a shape in Slides), or inline highlighting of the characters you selected (Docs)
- Line numbers with a start number you choose, and an optional language label
- Indentation, blank lines, tabs and links stay as they are
- Update a box after you change the code: it repaints in place, with no duplicates
- Remove styling to get your original code back as plain text
- Docs: highlight every
```block in the document in one go. Codeglaze shows how many it found before it changes anything - Docs: turn
`code`in the text you selected into inline highlighted code, in one go, after showing you the count - Works in the tab you have open in Docs
- A choice of monospace fonts and sizes; your last settings are remembered
- Menu shortcut Highlight selection (last settings): one click, no panel
- English and Japanese screens
What it will not do
These are stated plainly, because knowing them before you start matters more than a longer feature list.
- It only touches the file you have open, and only when you press a button. It never edits a document in the background. Ctrl+Z undoes what it did.
- Inline highlighting, the
```conversion and the`code`conversion work in Google Docs™ only. In Google Slides™ the code goes into a box. - Line numbers are real text in the box. If you copy the code out of a box with line numbers on, the numbers come with it. Turn them off, or copy from the panel, if you do not want them.
- It needs an internet connection. Google Apps Script does not run offline.
- Fonts come from Google’s own font list. If a font is not available in your file, Google shows its default instead.
How to use it
- Select your code in the document or slide (or paste it into the panel).
- Open Extensions > Codeglaze for Docs & Slides > Open Codeglaze.
- Pick the language and the theme, check the preview, and click Insert.
For one-click use, choose Highlight selection (last settings) from the same menu.
Permissions
Codeglaze’s own code uses three permissions. Because it is installed from Google Workspace Marketplace, Google also adds two basic sign-in permissions (email address and profile) to every Marketplace add-on:
| Scope | Why |
|---|---|
documents.currentonly |
To read the code you selected in the Google Docs™ file you have open, and to write the highlighted version back. It cannot see your other files. |
presentations.currentonly |
The same, for the Google Slides™ file you have open. |
script.container.ui |
To show the menu and the side panel. |
userinfo.email, userinfo.profile |
Added automatically by Google for Marketplace add-ons. Codeglaze does not read, store or send your email address or name. |
We deliberately do not request drive or drive.readonly.
